People and language

The Saxons are friendly and warm people who like to help others.

The population in Saxony is declining because many people sought their jobs in the West. Especially in the rural regions, there are therefore more older people. However, birth rates are currently rising again in Saxony. Older people in particular are strongly influenced by the experiences of the GDR era. This has caused people to have strong ties to tradition and family. Equality between men and women is practised in everyday life. On the other hand, there is also a lot of fear of the future, social envy and fear of foreigners in Saxony, although there are only 4 % of foreigners here.

Like many regions in Germany, Saxony has a dialect as its own form of the German language. This is still spoken by many people today, so some things may be difficult to understand. The Saxon dialect combines many words together, so you can't distinguish them neatly. In addition, everything is pronounced softly, such as K like a G and a T like a D and A like an O. Saxon also has many words of its own, such as Nu for Ja. Everyone has mastered the German language as it is taught in schools as well as in German courses. In addition, since German reunification in Saxony, there has also been an increase in population from other federal states in many places, so that more and more people without the typical dialect can also be found in Saxony.
