Administration and politics
The organisational administration of Saxony is divided into three independent cities and ten administrative districts.
The state capital is Dresden, the two other independent cities are Leipzig and Chemnitz. The state government and the Saxon parliament are located in Dresden. The parliament determines the basic direction of political events. Every five years, a new government is elected in Saxony. Currently, Saxony is governed by a coalition of CDU, Greens and SPD. The strongest party in the government provides the ruling Minister President, the supreme leader of the state. The current Prime Minister of Saxony is Michael Kretschmer of the CDU.
