Economy and education
The Saxon landscape is suitable for forestry, grain cultivation and for a long time coal and silver were also mined.
Leipzig was the first trade fair city in Germany. Even today, Saxony's economy is one of the fastest growing in Germany (source: Statista, Das Statistik Portal). Important industries include mechanical and automotive engineering, transport and logistics, as well as microelectronics, biotechnology, the IT industry and crafts. Tourism also plays a pronounced role.
In addition to its flourishing economy, Saxony also has a strong education system. The PISA study has shown that Saxon pupils are the best educated in school. Saxony's universities have many specialisations, such as for mining and micro-electronics. In addition to the universities, important, successful research is also carried out at institutes. Among other things, the TU Dresden has the status of "elite university".
